Using Recuva for file recovery

Piriform Recuva (http://www.recuva.com) is a file recovery tool for Windows platform. Let's take a look at Recuva v1.21.373. Installation is very simple, so there is no need to detail the installation process here.

Just launch Recuva.exe which is installed by default in "C:\Program Files\Recuva\" folder. Following window is displayed on your screen.

Configure Recuva by clicking Options button on the right side of Window.

In the General tab, there is nothing significant to set, right now. Open the Actions tab. Click to put check mark on Show files found in hidden system directories, and Deep Scan (increase scan time)

Click on OK button. Now select which drive you want to scan for file recovery purpose.

Recuva scans each selected drive in 2 stages. In the first stage it scans drive for deleted files.

During the second stage, it analyzes file contents of deleted files so found.

Recuva categorizes deleted files as Excellent, Good, Poor, Very poor, and Unrecoverable for recovery purpose. Preview, File information, and Header details are available for each deleted file so found.

Selected file, can be recovered by clicking Recover… button which is enabled in case file is not overwritten by any other cluster. A right click in file list pane gives further options to recover, securely delete, and change view mode.

Recuva is a good tool that helps users to recover accidently deleted files, and above all it’s FREE.
